What a time to be in the restaurant industry in Bristol! Despite some naysayers wanting you to believe it’s all doom and gloom, we have three exciting new openings just this week!
Firstly is the second site for the three porky brothers behind Pigsty at Cargo. Opening (almost ironically) in what was previously the gym Bubalu, this has been a long wait for this porky writer. You would hardly recognise the place now, open kitchen, bar and windows that open right on to Gloucester Road to help dispel some of the muggy weather we’ve been “enjoying”. You will find the usual suspects of Pig Macs, Sharing Boards and hoguettes as well as a fridge full of Jolly Hog pork products for you to buy and cook at home and a new brunch menu! Find them at 79-81 Gloucester Road.

Next is the long await Woky Ko Kauto, again, a second site for Cargo favourite Woky Ko, owned and run by Larkin Cen. Opening on Queens Road, just at the top of Park Street, they are keeping the old favourite s such as noodles and bao but also bringing in new Ramen style dishes, Korean fried chicken and an extended sharing menu. You can even sit right at the kitchen table to watch the chefs in action! Don’t forget to try a cocktail or two either. Find them at 7 – 9 Queens Road.

Last but not least is Koocha Mezze Bar, a vegan mezze bar opening on Zetland Road at what was previously Number 10. Gone are the dark interiors, cramped bar area and old outdoor seating and in is colour, light and beautiful blue benches (I think they used the same paint I did for mine!). The menu is rich and varied, with offerings including aubergine dip, veggie fritters, crunch spiced cauliflower and of course falafels and houmous! Expect a slamming looking cocktail menu that features gorgeous sounding Persian Rose, featuring gin, rose water and cucumber, sounds like the perfect tipple for a long, hot day AND these are offered 2 4 £10! Find them at 10 Zetland Rd.
